OL98: How to Remove or Replace Folder Size Button in Folder Properties

SUMMARY

When you view the Properties of a folder in Microsoft Outlook 98, you can get an approximate size of the folder in kilobytes (KB). By default, Folder Size is on the General tab of the folder Properties. In some instances, you may want to remove this button, or it may already be missing.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).


To either remove or replace the Folder Size button, quit Outlook, start the Registry Editor, and navigate to the following key in the registry:


HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Outlook
Add a new DWORD Value by following these steps:
  1. Click the Outlook folder to select it, and on the Edit menu, point to New, and click DWORD Value.


  2. Type ChkFldrSize, and then press ENTER.


  3. Click the ChkFldrSize icon in the right pane, and on the Edit menu, click Modify.


  4. Click Hexadecimal and type 0 in the Value Data box to disable the Folder Size button, or 1 to enable it.


  5. Click OK and close the Registry Editor.


NOTE: This feature does not work with Microsoft Outlook 97.
