SUMMARY

If you are using Microsoft Outlook to access mail on a Microsoft Mail 3.x postoffice or a Workgroup Postoffice (WGPO) and occasionally work either offline or remotely using Dial-Up Networking, this article describes how to make your postoffice address list available when working offline.

MORE INFORMATION

Downloading your Microsoft Mail 3.x or WGPO postoffice address list allows you to view your postoffice address list when you are not connected to the postoffice. This helps remote users who would like to compose mail items when working offline.

How to Download the Postoffice Address List

To download the postoffice address list, follow these steps:
  1. Start Outlook using a profile configured to connect to a postoffice.

  2. On the Tools menu, point to Microsoft Mail Tools and then click Download Address Lists. Outlook downloads the address list to your system.

Making the Local Copy of the Address List Available Offline

To make the downloaded copy of the address list available offline or remotely, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu click Services. Click Microsoft Mail and then click Properties.

  2. Click the Lan Configuration tab and under "You can use a local copy of the postoffice address list instead of the copy on the server," click Use Local Copy.
