This article describes how to set up Microsoft Office Sounds and Animated
Cursors after they have been installed with Microsoft Outlook 98
Maintenance Wizard.

Sound and cursor settings are controlled in the Windows Control panel. With
the Sounds control panel, you can set actions on the computer to trigger
selected sounds. Mouse pointers can be changed with the Mouse control
panel.
To Install Office Sounds and Animated Cursors
- Click the Start button, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click to open Add/Remove Programs.
- Click to select Microsoft Outlook 98, and then click Add/Remove.
- In the Outlook 98 Active Setup window, click Add New Components. Click
OK if you are prompted about currently running programs.
- Click Install From CD, or Install From Web, depending upon how you
originally installed Outlook 98.
- Click Yes when you see the message "Active Setup is about to determine
what internet components are installed on your computer. Is this OK?"
- In the Microsoft Outlook 98 Component Install window, click to select
Office Sounds and Animated Cursors. Click Next.
- If you are installing from a compact disc click Install Now. If you are
installing from the Web, click to select a download site and then
click install now.
- In the Install Complete window, click OK, and then quit Internet
Explorer.
To Set Sounds to Actions on the Computer
- Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
- Double-click Sounds.
- In the Events window, click to select the event that you want to
associate a sound with.
- Click to select a wave file under Name. If you don't see the wave file
listed, click Browse and locate the wave file in the Office
folder. You can click the arrow to the right of the Preview box to
listen to the sound you have selected, or if you are viewing the sounds
in the Office folder, the Preview button is at the bottom of the window.
If the sound is not what you expected, click to select another sound.
Click OK to close the window.
- Continue by clicking another event. Repeat step 4 and 5 until you
have the sounds set to your preference.
- Click OK to close the Sounds control panel.
To Change the Mouse Pointer and Cursor
- Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Mouse icon.
- On the Pointers tab, click to select the scheme that best suites your
needs. If you do not see the particular scheme or pointer that you want
to use, click Browse and locate the folder containing other pointers.
NOTE: You can change the individual cursors by clicking to select a
cursor, clicking Browse, and then clicking one of the cursor files
(.cur) listed. Once you have done this, save your settings by clicking
Save As.
- Click Apply, and then OK to close the Mouse control panel.
