OL98: Error Message Attempting to Import Act! 3.x Data

SYMPTOMS

After installing Microsoft Outlook 98, you attempted to import contact or calendar data from a version of ACT! 3.x. The import was not successful and although the program was installed, you may have received an error stating that ACT! needed to be installed on your computer.


CAUSE

Your ACT! installation needs to be updated to version 3.08.


RESOLUTION

Updating your ACT! Installation

To update your ACT! Installation, follow these steps:
  1. Download and install the necessary application patches to update your copy of ACT! to version 3.08. The patches are available from the Symantec Web site:
    http://www.symantec.com


  2. Once you have completed the updating process, open your ACT! database in ACT! 3.08 and then exit the program.


Converting ACT! Data in Outlook

To convert the ACT! 3.x data for use in Outlook, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Import And Export to open the Import and Export Wizard.


  2. In "Choose an action to perform," click "Import from another program or file" and click Next.


  3. In "Select file type to import from," click to select "ACT! 3.0 Contact Manager for Windows" and click Next.


  4. In File To Import click Browse and locate your ACT! file and then click OK. Click Next.


  5. In "The following actions will be performed", select the ACT! elements you wish to convert. These elements will import into the Outlook Contacts, Calendar and Tasks folders. Click Change Destination if you wish to import to folders other than these default locations. Click Finish.
