OL98: QuickView Plus Causes Hyperlinks to Fail

SYMPTOMS

Using Microsoft Outlook 98, you find that clicking a Mailto link in a received mail message causes Outlook to stop responding or hang. Additionally you may also see the following error message:

Outlook caused an Invalid Page Fault in Qvphook.dll


CAUSE

This error has been observed to happen when QuickView Plus version 4.5 is installed.


RESOLUTION

To avoid this error, configure Quick View Plus (QVP) as follows:

  1. Find the QVP icon in the system tray. If the QVP icon is not in the system tray, run QVP32.exe to place it there.


  2. Right-click on the QVP icon in the system tray, and click to select "Configure Quick View Plus..." to invoke the "Configure Quick View Plus with other programs" dialogue box.


  3. On the Applications tab, click to select Microsoft Outlook, and then click the Properties button to invoke the "Microsoft Outlook" dialogue box.


  4. On the Options tab, click to de-select the "Provide Default handling of Open and Print commands" option, and click OK.


  5. Click OK again.
