OL98: United Kingdom Late Summer Holiday Dates Incorrect

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 98 the United Kingdom Late Summer Holiday is incorrectly defined for the years 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2005.


CAUSE

The Outlook.txt file has the incorrect days for these dates.


RESOLUTION

Edit the file, Outlook.txt to correct the calendar dates for the occurrences of the Late Summer Holiday in each of the years mentioned and then reimport the United Kingdom holidays.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 98.

The Late Summer Holiday is observed in the United Kingdom on the last Monday in August. The month of August in the years 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2005, contains five weeks. The Late Summer Holiday is incorrectly entered in the Outlook.txt file as the fourth Monday.

To Correct the Dates Before Adding Holidays

To correctly set the Late Summer Holiday for installations of Outlook which have not added United Kingdom holidays, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Find and click Files and Folders.


  2. In the Named box type, Outlook.txt. Ensure that the Look In box has the entire hard drive selected. Click Find Now.


  3. Double-click the Outlook.txt file to open it in Notepad.


  4. On the Search menu, click Find. In the Find What box type Late Summer and then click Find Next.


  5. Correct the date entries for the Late Summer Holiday according to the following table:
    
          Correct Dates           Incorrect Dates
    
          1998/08/31              1998/08/24
          1999/08/30              1999/08/23
          2004/08/30              2004/08/23
          2005/08/29              2005/08/22 


  6. On the File menu, click Save and then quit Notepad.


To Import the corrected Holidays, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.


  2. Click Calendar Options and then click Add Holidays.


  3. Click to select the United Kingdom check box. Click OK.


To Correct the Dates After Adding Holidays

If the United Kingdom holidays have been added to the Outlook Calendar, follow these steps to adjust the incorrect dates:

  1. Click the Calendar folder for which you wish to adjust the Late Summer Holiday dates.


  2. On the Go menu, click Go To Date and then in Date click to select August 24, 1998 and click OK.


  3. Double-click the holiday and in Start Time click to select August 31, 1998.


  4. Repeat the above steps changing August 23, 1999 to August 30, 1999.


The Late Summer Holidays for these two years will now appear on the correct dates.
