IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry.
Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if
a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring
the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help
topic in Regedt32.exe.
SUMMARY
This article describes how to automatically import Microsoft Schedule+ 7.x
data to the Microsoft Outlook 98 Calendar by using the Microsoft Outlook
Deployment Wizard (ODW) to configure a custom installation. This method
only imports Schedule+ 7.x data located in a Microsoft Exchange Server
mailbox.
MORE INFORMATIONWARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor
can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and
Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete
Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in
Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.
If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency
Repair Disk (ERD).
The Microsoft Outlook Deployment Wizard lets an administrator add custom
registry entries to the Windows registry during the installation process.
If a user's Schedule+ 7.x Calendar information is stored on a Microsoft
Exchange Server computer, the data can be migrated to Microsoft Outlook 98
by setting the following registry key and value on the Add Registry Entries
screen in Stage 5 of the ODW:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Outlook\Import
Value Name: ImportDetection
Value Type: DWORD
Value Data: 1 = Prompt user to import Schedule+ information
2 = Import Schedule+ information without prompting user
During the installation process, this entry is added to the registry on the
user's computer. When Outlook 8.5 is run for the first time, the following
process occurs:
- Outlook detects whether any Schedule+ data exists for the Exchange
user's mailbox. If no schedule data is detected, then no further action
is taken.
- If Schedule+ data is detected, either the user is prompted to convert
the data, or the data conversion process automatically starts, depending
on the ImportDetection value. At this point, a copy of the user's
schedule data is copied to the Schedimp0.scd file in the user's local Temp
directory.
- The Schedimp0.scd file is imported to the user's Outlook mailbox.
During this process, the user's Schedule+ contacts, appointments,
and tasks are imported into the appropriate Outlook Contacts, Calendar,
and Tasks folders. The user sees a status indicator during this
stage of the import.
NOTE: Schedule+ permissions are not migrated. The user must manually
configure the permissions on the Calendar folder to allow others
access. By default, the Calendar folder has no permissions.
- After the Schedule+ data has been imported, the ImportDetection key is
deleted from the registry and the .scd file remains in the Temp
directory. This is useful for recovery if a problem arises during the
import process.
- After the user verifies that the data was imported correctly, the user
can run Microsoft Outlook with the /CleanSchedPlus parameter to
permanently delete the Schedule+ data in the mailbox.
Troubleshooting Import Problems
If you experience a problem with this automatic process of importing
Schedule+ data, make sure to check the following:
- Verify that the ImportDetection value exists in the registry key
specified above. If not, you must confirm the value entered in the ODW
when creating the install point.
- Verify that the following registry values do not exist. If they do, it
may be necessary to delete them and restart Outlook 8.5:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Outlook\Setup
Value Name: First-Run
Value Name: ImportSPlus
- Verify that Schedule+ data exists on the user's Exchange Server mailbox.
