OL98: Hyperlink in Received Mail Message Not Integrated
ID: Q197879
|
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMS
When you receive a mail message through the Internet that contains a Web
site address as a Uniform Resource Locator (URL), the link is only
partially displayed as an active link. The remaining text of the link is on
a different line and is not blue or underlined.
NOTE: This problem only occurs with mail you receive from a third-party
(non-Outlook) client. Wrapped URL text displays correctly when sent from an
Outlook client.
CAUSE
The third-party mail client that sent the link inserted a line break in the
middle of the URL text, or the sender may have inadvertently inserted a
carriage return by pressing <ENTER> while typing the URL. Web addresses
inserted in the body of a mail message are not complete if the URL is
broken before the end of the text.
This behavior also occurs if the sender typed a space in the text of the
URL.
RESOLUTION
To use a URL that is displayed in this manner, follow these steps:
Plain Text and Rich Text Messages
- Open the message.
- On the Edit menu, click Edit Message.
NOTE: If you are editing an Outlook Rich Text message, skip this step.
- Click to place the insertion point to the right of the first line of the
URL, just prior to the line break.
- Press DELETE to bring the second line of the URL up to integrate it with
the first line.
HTML Messages
- Open the message containing the separated URL.
- On the Edit menu, click Edit Message.
- On the Format menu, click the Plain Text. A dialog box appears stating:
Warning: Changing the formatting of this message from HTML to plain text
requires removing all the current formatting including pictures you may
have included. Are you sure you want to do this?
Click OK.
- Click to place the insertion point to the right of the first line of the
URL, just prior to the line break. Press DELETE to bring the second line
of the URL up to integrate it with the first line.
Messages Received With Word as E-mail Editor
- Open the message containing the separated URL.
- Click to place the insertion point to the right of the first line of the
URL, just prior to the line break.
- Press DELETE to bring the second line of the URL up to integrate it with
the first line.
- Select the complete and integrated URL. On the Insert menu, click
Hyperlink.
The partial URL appears in the "Link to file or URL" box.
- Click Remove Hyperlink. Ensure that the full URL is selected and then
click the Insert menu selecting Hyperlink as in step 4. Click OK.
The URL should be completely blue and underlined. Clicking the URL will
launch the default browser as expected.
