OL98: Error Sending Mail After Installing Outlook 98 from the Exchange Server 5.5, SP1 CD

SYMPTOMS

When you send a signed or encrypted message you may receive the following error message:

This message could not be secured using the selected security settings. Your e-mail address may not be the e-mail address on the certificate, or some other problem exists with the certificate. Do you want to proceed with this message without security?


CAUSE

One possible cause is that you have installed Outlook from the Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5, SP1 compact disc (CD).


RESOLUTION

To fix this problem run the program "Ol98qfe.exe" located on the Exchange Server CD.


MORE INFORMATION

Outlook can be installed and will run correctly when installed from the Exchange Server CD. To use the security features of Exchange with Outlook, you will need to run the update on the CD. To install the file, browse to the following location on the CD


<drive>:\en\support\updates\smime 
where <drive> is your compact disc drive.

In the Smime folder, double-click the file Ol98qfe.exe to install the update.
