SYMPTOMSIf you receive an attachment with either a Rich Text Format (RTF) or HTML message, when you right-click the attachment there may be no Open With command. When you click Open in an attempt to open the file, you receive the following message where <file name> is the file name of the attachment. When you click OK, the attachment does not open. CAUSEThe file attachment does not have a file extension that is registered with a program on your computer, or the file name does not contain a file extension. For example, a Notepad file saved without the ".txt" extension has no association to the Notepad program when received as e-mail an attachment. RESOLUTIONRight-click the attachment, and then click Open. When prompted, What would you like to do with this file?, click Save it to disk instead of Open it. Once the file is saved to your hard disk, when you right-click the file you should have the option, Open With. This allows you to select the appropriate program on your computer to open the file.
