OL98: Standard Toolbar Buttons Change on Custom Form

ID: Q224674

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 98

SYMPTOMS

You customize a form in Outlook, but when using the form, the buttons on the standard toolbar unexpectedly change or replicate when you briefly rest the mouse pointer on them.

CAUSE

You see this behavior if all these conditions are true, and you typically have followed this sequence:

  1. Delete the Notes or Message field from the first page of the form, or if the form page is unmodifiable, hide the first form page.
  2. Add the Notes or Message field to another form page, as long as it is not the first form page displayed when the form is used.
  3. Display the Formatting toolbar on the form by default.
  4. Use or run the form, switch to the form page that contains the Message or Notes control, and then briefly rest the mouse pointer on the standard toolbar.

You can work around this problem by placing the following Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript) code in the form:

Sub Main

' Set the form page to whatever page has the Notes field on it, in
' this case the P.2 page.
   Item.GetInspector.SetCurrentFormPage "P.2"

' Switch the form page back to the first form page, in this case the
' the General page of a contact form.
   Item.GetInspector.SetCurrentFormPage "General"

End Sub
