OL98: Error Message The Stored Calling Card Information May Be Corrupt

SYMPTOMS

When starting Outlook or when editing Outlook contacts you may receive the following error message:

The stored calling card information may be corrupt. Would you like to reset to default values?


CAUSE

This problem can occur if you have a damaged, or incorrect format for a telephony file.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem remove and replace Telephon.ini:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.


  2. In the Named box, type Telephon.ini.


  3. In the Look in list, click to select My Computer, and then click Find Now.


  4. In the found files list, right-click the Telephon.ini file and then click Rename. Rename the file to Telephon.old.


  5. Close the Find dialog box.


  6. Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type tapiini, and then click OK.


  7. Restart your computer.

The Telephon.ini file stores the settings for all TAPI-enabled applications, such as Fax and Dial-Up Networking.

A default Telephon.ini file for Microsoft Windows 95 contains the following settings:

ProviderFilename0=UNIMDM.TSP

[Provider1]
NumLines=1
NumPhones=0

[HandoffPriorities]
RequestMakeCall=DIALER.EXE 
A default Telephon.ini file for Microsoft Windows 98 contains the following settings:

[Providers]
NumProviders=2
NextProviderID=3
ProviderID0=1
ProviderFilename0=UNIMDM.TSP
ProviderID1=2
ProviderFilename1=WAN.TSP

[Provider1]
NumLines=2
NumPhones=0

[HandoffPriorities]
RequestMakeCall=DIALER.EXE 
The [Locations] section of the Telephon.ini file contains an entry for each dialing location you have created. The entry for the default dialing location is similar to:


Location0=0,"Default Location","9","9","425",1,0,0,1,"",0,"" 
When you recreate a new default Telephon.ini file you will have to recreate your custom dialing locations.
