NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. SYMPTOMSWhen you connect to your Internet Service Provider to retrieve e-mail from a POP server, your password is not retained even though you specified save your password. CAUSEThe registry contains incorrect information in the Protected Storage System Provider key for the user account. The steps to resolve the behavior described in the "Symptoms" section vary slightly depending on the operating system you are using. Follow the steps appropriate to the operating system you are using. Microsoft Windows 95/98IMPORTANT: Do not remove the main Protected Storage System Provider key. This key is not automatically regenerated. If you are not having password retention problems and you do not remember your password, deleting the user subkey may result in not being able to retrieve your mail.If your password is not being retained, follow these steps:

The subkey will be regenerated the next time the user logs on. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0If you are a Windows NT user, you must have administrator permissions to edit the system registry.IMPORTANT: Do not remove the main Protected Storage System Provider subkey. This subkey is not automatically regenerated.
