OL97: Visual Basic Script Editor Has 32 KB Limit

SYMPTOMS

When you type a large number of lines of code into the Visual Basic Script Editor in Microsoft Outlook 97, you eventually cannot type any more characters; the Editor does not accept the keystrokes.


CAUSE

The Visual Basic Script Editor can store a maximum of 32 KB of text. Any text beyond 32 KB will not be accepted by the editor.


RESOLUTION

This is a limitation of the Visual Basic Script Editor which shipped with Outlook 97. Microsoft provides a Visual Basic Script Editor Patch that does not have this limitation.

At an average of 25 characters per line of code, you will not reach the 32 KB limit until you enter over 1000 lines of code.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 97 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Outlook 97 version 8.02 for Windows.
