SYMPTOMSIf you use the spelling checker to reply to an e-mail message when using the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP) and you have Reply Ticking selected, the spelling check will include the original message text even if you select the option "Ignore original message text in reply or forward." RESOLUTIONIf you do not want the spelling check to include the text of the original message, do not turn on Reply Ticking. MORE INFORMATION
The Internet Mail service, provided by IMEP, allows you to mark original
text in an e-mail reply with a special character. This character precedes
each line of original text and is usually a greater than sign, a colon, or
a vertical line (>, :, |). Reply Ticking, or Ticks is the name commonly
used for this reply convention. The Internet Mail service design allows you
to turn on Reply Ticking in e-mail messages.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP). We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
