OL97: Delay When Automatically Recording Journal Entries

ID: Q169495

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 97

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Outlook 97, version 8.02, improves journal entry performance by reducing the idle time from 60 to 30 seconds and providing a progress bar during the recording process.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. Click the Journal tab. Under "Automatically record these items," click to select the "E-mail message" check box, and then click OK.

  3. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Contact.

  4. Type values in the appropriate fields.

NOTE: The Full Name and E-mail fields are required entries.

  5. Click the Journal tab, and then click to select the "Automatically record journal entries for this contact" check box. Click Save and Close.

  6. Double-click the Contacts folder, and then double-click the contact you just created.

  7. On the Contact menu, click "New Message to Contact."

  8. Type an e-mail message, and click Send.

NOTE: Under these conditions, the journal entry may not appear immediately. If you skip step 2 above so that "Automatically record items" is not selected, Outlook does not create a journal entry for the e-mail message. If you skip step 5 above, and then later select the "Automatically record journal entries for this contact" check box, you must resave the contact information before Outlook can create automatic journal entries for the contact.
