This article describes how to configure Microsoft Outlook 97 for use with a WinGate 2.0 Proxy Server.

WinGate 2.0 is a client/server application designed to allow multiple users simultaneous access to the Internet with only one connection, one phone line, and one Internet account.

To Configure Outlook for Use with WinGate 2.0

  1. On the Tools menu, click Services.


  2. On the Services tab, click Add.


  3. From the Available Services list, click Internet Mail and click OK.


  4. On the General tab, enter the name or IP address of your WinGate server in the Internet Mail server box.


  5. In Account name, enter your POP3 account including your user name in the following format:
    user#mailhost.domain (example: John_Doe#doecompany.com)
    The delimiter character (#) should be the character specified in the Setup of the WinGate POP3 proxy server.


  6. In the Password field, enter your POP3 password.


  7. Click Advanced Options.


  8. In "Forward all outbound mail" enter the name or IP address of your WinGate SMTP server and click OK.


  9. On the Connection tab, click to select "Connect using the network" and click OK.
