OL97: Configuring Outlook to Use a Cable Modem

ID: Q189718

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 97

SUMMARY

This article describes how you can configure Microsoft Outlook 97 to send and receive mail using a high-speed cable modem service.

MORE INFORMATION

Cable Internet services use a TV cable connection and device that combines high-speed downloading with nominal-speed uploading over the telephone line. Such devices, often referred to as hybrid or duplex modems, are attached to a network card. A traditional modem uses a serial port.

Satellite dish systems, such as DirecPC, use similar devices to combine upload and download functions in a higher speed environment.

NOTE: These instructions assume that are using the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch (IMEP) or have applied the Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 1 (SR-1) patch to upgrade Outlook 97 and that you have created a profile to use with your Internet mail account.
