ERROR MESSAGE

Failed to start NetShow ASF session
NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 has built-in functionality that allows you to get more information about difficult-to-troubleshoot alerts or error messages. CAUSE

Before you start the online broadcast, an Advanced Streaming Format session must be established with the NetShow server. If the NetShow server cannot fulfill this request, you will receive this error.

WHAT TO TRY

Make sure that the presenter is a member of both the Administrators group and the NetShow Administrators group on the NetShow server. Make sure that NetShow is configured and running properly on the NetShow server, and that the Presenter Machine can connect to these services. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the Sample.ASF in the <ASFROOT> directory on the NetShow server.

  2. On the Start menu of the presenter computer, click Run. In the Open box, type the following:

    mms://<servername>/sample.asf

    Click OK.

  3. The Windows Media player should play the Sample.ASF on the presenter computer. If it does not, contact your NetShow administrator or consult your NetShow documentation.

To test whether there is too much activity on the NetShow server, or whether there may be network connectivity problems between the NetShow server and the presenter computer, set up a new, online broadcast. Select one audience member and do not use a NetShow server. If this step works, then the network between the presenter computer and the NetShow server is not functioning properly, or the NetShow server is offline or configured incorrectly. In this case, contact your NetShow administrator or consult your NetShow documentation.

If the new, online broadcast involving only the presenter computer and one audience member does not work, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
