PPT2000: "Unknown Network Error" When Using Online Collaboration

SYMPTOMS

When you create an Online Collaboration meeting from Microsoft PowerPoint, you may receive an error message similar to the following:

Unknown Network Error
You may receive this error message while waiting for the reminder to the meeting.


CAUSE

This problem may occur if you have removed or not installed Microsoft NetMeeting.


RESOLUTION

Microsoft Internet Explorer installs Microsoft NetMeeting. To install NetMeeting, please reinstall your version of Internet Explorer.

To install Internet Explorer 5.0:

  1. Place your Microsoft Office 2000 CD into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.


  2. On the Windows Start menu, click Run.


  3. Click Browse.


  4. Browse to the following location and select the Internet Explorer Setup Program on your Office 2000 CD:
    drive:\IE5\EN\IE5Setup.exe
    NOTE: drive is the letter of your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.


  5. Click Open.


  6. Click OK. Select to install a Full installation and allow Setup to complete.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
