PPT2000: "This page uses frames," When Opening an HTML Presentation in PowerPoint

ID: Q226682

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you publish your presentation with the Browser Support option selected for Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later, and you attempt to open the generated HTML web in Microsoft PowerPoint, the presentation will open with only a single slide that contains the following text:

"This page uses frames, but your browser doesn’t support them."

CAUSE

When you publish your presentation for compatibility with the older versions of web browsers, PowerPoint uses generic HTML tags and formatting. It does not use any features supported by the version 4.0 HTML capable browsers, and does not store any information to allow for round tripping from HTML to Presentation formats.

RESOLUTION

If you need to make your web page available to users of earlier versions of web browsers and still need to be able to roundtrip the file, use the third choice in the Browser Support box: All browsers listed above (creates larger files). This will save information that is needed for round tripping, but it will allow people with Version 3.0 HTML capable browsers to view the pages.
