These proofing tools provide the fonts, localized templates, spelling and grammar checkers you need to create and edit documents in different languages when using Office programs. This article describes how to use the Spanish and French proofing tools from Microsoft PowerPoint.
MORE INFORMATION
To check the spelling in another language, you must first type your text and then change the language ID for your text. By default, typed text is marked with the language ID defined by your keyboard settings.
To Use the Spanish Proofing Tools
To mark text as Spanish, and then check the spelling, follow these steps:
- Create a text box, and type your Spanish text.
- Select all of the text. You can do this by clicking inside your text box three times.
- On the Tools menu, click Language.
- In the Mark selected text as list, click Spanish (Spain-Traditional Sort), and then click OK.
NOTE: Clicking any of the other Spanish options does not work because Office 2000 only ships with the spelling tools for Spain-Traditional Sort. These spelling tools are distinct from other Spanish-language variations.
- Repeat steps 2-4 for any other Spanish text in your presentation.
- On the Tools menu, click Spelling. The first time that you do this, you may be prompted to insert your installation CD-ROM so that Office can install the Spanish tools.
To Use the French Proofing Tools
To mark text as French, and then check the spelling, follow these steps:
- Create a text box, and type your Spanish text.

NOTE: Clicking any of the other French options does not work because Office 2000 only ships with the spelling tools for French (France). These spelling tools are distinct from other French-language variations.
- Repeat steps 2-4 for any other French text in your presentation.
