SYMPTOMS

After you install the PowerPoint Custom Soundtracks Add-In, it takes PowerPoint longer to start. Your computer may appear to stop responding while the New Presentation dialog box is being displayed.

CAUSE

The Custom Soundtracks Add-In loads itself while PowerPoint starts. If you have other, third-party Add-Ins installed, they may also add to the time it takes PowerPoint to start.

RESOLUTION

After you install the Custom Soundtracks Add-In, you can turn it off when you don't need it. When the Custom Soundtracks Add-In is disabled, PowerPoint's startup speeds up again.

To Turn Off Custom Soundtracks

  1. Click Add-Ins on the Tools menu.

  2. Click Ppmusic on the Available Add-Ins list.

  3. Click Unload, then click Close.

To Turn Custom Soundtracks Back On

  1. Click Add-Ins on the Tools menu.

  2. Click Ppmusic on the Available Add-Ins list.

  3. Click Load, then click Close.

MORE INFORMATION

The PowerPoint Custom Soundtracks Add-In is a PowerPoint Add-In that you can use to add electronically-generated background music to your Slide Shows. You can install this Add-In from the following folder on the Office 97 compact disc:

   D:\ValuPack\MusicTrk
assuming that D: is the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive.

This add-in need only be active while you are assigning a custom soundtrack to your slides. The add-in does not need to be active to play back a slide that already has a custom soundtrack.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
