PPT97: Slide Navigator Has Limit of 256 Slides

SYMPTOMS

When you launch the Slide Navigator in Slide Show, you may get the following error message:

This presentation contains more than 256 slides and can't be opened by the Slide Navigator.

If you click OK, you see this message:

PowerPoint couldn't run this feature. Restart PowerPoint and try again, or run Setup and reinstall.

This error does not occur in PowerPoint for Windows 95, version 7.0.

CAUSE

Your presentation contains more than 256 slides. Although your presentation may contain more than 256 slides, you can only use the Slide Navigator feature for presentations containing 256 or fewer slides.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
