PPT97: Font Attributes Not Retained When Pasting to Text Box

SYMPTOMS

Text copied from the Title placeholder does not retain font attributes when you paste it into another placeholder, text box, or shape.


CAUSE

Font attributes change when you paste text into any of the following:

  • A placeholder that does not follow the Title placeholder on the master slide.


  • A text box or AutoShape that uses the font and font size, which currently appears in the Formatting toolbar.


  • An object that contains different font formatting.


  • An object that already contains text.



RESOLUTION

Use one of the following methods to work around this issue.

Method 1: Use Format Painter

  1. Select the text that has the formatting you want to copy.


  2. Click the Format Painter button on the Standard toolbar.

    The pointer will now look like a paint brush.


  3. Drag the paint brush pointer across the text you want to format.


Method 2: Change the font

  1. Select the text you want to format.


  2. On the Format menu, click Font.


  3. Select the options you want, and then click OK.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
