SYMPTOMSIf you drag a .wav (sound) file or an .avi (Video for Windows movie) file from Windows Explorer and drop it onto a PowerPoint slide, PowerPoint 97 creates a Media Player object to play that file. It does this even though PowerPoint 97 can play a .wav or an .avi file without using Media Player. CAUSEWhen you drag a file of any type from Windows Explorer and drop it onto a slide, PowerPoint checks to see if that file type is registered to a particular OLE source application. In the case of .wav files and .avi files, Media Player is the registered OLE source application. RESOLUTIONIf you wish to insert a sound or movie file into your presentation and have PowerPoint control the playback of that file (instead of Media Player), insert the .wav or .avi file using the Movies and Sounds command on the Insert menu.
