SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Microsoft PowerPoint Pack and Go Wizard to save a presentation to floppy disks, it does not pack any hyperlinked files. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Office 97 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1). The version of PowerPoint included with Service Release 1 packs files that are the targets of hyperlinks. However, PowerPoint still does not pack HTTP hyperlinked files. MORE INFORMATION
Hyperlinking is a very broad-based technology within PowerPoint 97. You can
hyperlink to a slide within a presentation, as well as hyperlink to a Web
site. Hyperlinking is fundamentally different from using Object Linking and
Embedding (OLE) technology to link to a document.
http://www.w3.orgWhen you use the Pack and Go Wizard to save a presentation to floppy disks, the Pack and Go wizard will check for any file that has been linked to the presentation through OLE. Because hyperlinked files can be virtually any kind of document, slide, or web site, the Pack and Go Wizard will ignore those settings. Also, the Pack and Go Wizard will save your presentation in the dual format of PowerPoint 95/97. For any presentations run under PowerPoint 95, the hyperlink is not available because it is not a feature of PowerPoint 95. Basically, if you want to have a file included in a Pack and Go archive, you must link to it through OLE.
