SYMPTOMSIf you create a hyperlink within a PowerPoint 97 presentation, and you have more than 252 characters within the title field, the title field does not appear in the Hyperlink To Slide dialog box. CAUSE
The Hyperlink To Slide dialog box is limited to 255 characters. The slide
number, the period, and the space between these and the title of the slide
in the list count against this total.
WORKAROUND
For slides numbered from 1 to 9, select all words that take you past the
252nd character, and then cut and paste them into a separate text frame on
your slide. For slides numbered from 10 to 99, select all words that take
you past the 251st character, and then cut and paste them into a separate
text frame on your slide. For slides numbered from 100 to 999, select all
words that take you past the 250th character, and then cut and paste them
into a separate text frame on your slide.
-or-Avoid using slide titles that exceed this limit. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows 97.
