PPT97: Error, Unsaved Changes Lost Clicking Font List

SYMPTOMS

When you click the Font list on the Formatting toolbar in PowerPoint 97 running on Windows NT 4.0, you receive the following error message:

PowerPoint found an error it cannot correct.
When you click OK, PowerPoint closes and all your unsaved work is lost.


CAUSE

This error message appears if the default printer on the Windows NT 4.0 computer is a network printer and it is currently unavailable.


WORKAROUND

To correct this problem, add a local printer driver and set it as the default printer. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and click Printers.


  2. Double-click Add Printer to start the Add Printer Wizard.


  3. Follow the instructions in the wizard to add a local printer.


  4. When the Add Printer Wizard is complete, right-click the newly-added printer and then click Set as Default on the menu that appears.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
