SYMPTOMSPowerPoint 97 may fail to detect spelling errors in a text box although the text is formatted with the correct language and the spelling checker for this language is installed. CAUSEPowerPoint 97 can only check the spelling of text that is in the same code page that is currently set as the system's default code page. For example, if the current Windows code page is 1252 (Western), PowerPoint can check the spelling of text in English, French, German, or Spanish, but not Greek or Russian. If the current code page is 1253 (Greek), PowerPoint can check the spelling of Greek text only but not Western European or Russian text. WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, you can change the system code page by
changing the default region in the Regional Settings Control Panel.
