XL2000: DataType Property Always Returns xlNumber in OLAP PivotTables

SYMPTOMS

When you query the DataType property of a PivotTable field in a Visual Basic for Applications procedure, the procedure indicates that the data type of the field is numeric when the data type of the field is text.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when your PivotTable data is based on an Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) data source.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
