To determine whether a form field exists in a document, you can use the Exists method. The following sample Visual Basic for Applications macro determines whether the form field named Text1 exists in the current or active document:

Sub DoesFormFieldExist()

   If ActiveDocument.Bookmarks.Exists("Text1") Then
      MsgBox "The form field Text1 does exist."
   Else
      MsgBox "The form field Text1 does not exist."
   End If

End Sub

For more information about the Exists method, in the Visual Basic Editor, click Microsoft Visual Basic Help on the Help menu, type Exists method in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.
