XL2000: Can't Tile Windows with Macro If a Window Is Minimized

SYMPTOMS

When you run a Visual Basic for Applications macro that tiles the visible workbook windows by using a line of code similar to either of the following


Application.Windows.Arrange xlArrangeStyleTiled 
-or-

Application.Windows.Arrange xlTiled 
workbook windows may not be tiled or rearranged in any way. Note that you do not receive any error messages.


CAUSE

This problem occurs if one or more visible workbook windows are minimized.

NOTE: This problem does not occur versions of Microsoft Excel earlier than Excel 97.

Even though you cannot tile visible workbook windows if one of them is minimized, you can arrange them vertically or horizontally. You can also cascade the visible workbook windows.

To arrange workbook windows, use the following line of code:

Application.Windows.Arrange <constant> 
In this line of code, <constant> can be one of the following four values.

   Constant                   Definition
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------

   xlArrangeStyleCascade      Cascade the visible windows.

   xlArrangeStyleHorizontal   Arrange the visible windows horizontally.

   xlArrangeStyleVertical     Arrange the visible windows vertically.

   xlArrangeStyleTiled        Tile the visible windows (a combination of
                              horizontal and vertical arrangement). 


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

  • Click the Minimize button in the upper-right corner of the window.

  • Click the program icon in the upper-left corner of the window, and then click Minimize.

  • Click the window and press CTRL+F9.
