If you rename an object on a PowerPoint slide and group that item with another item, the group will use the name of the renamed object; however, the group cannnot be referenced by the same name. CAUSE
This problem is caused by the naming convention used by the Microsoft Office Drawing layer for objects when they are grouped and ungrouped. Specifically, the group takes on the name of the first shape in the group. If the group is ungrouped, the first shape takes on the name of the group. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
