SYMPTOMS

Sometimes when you use Word as your e-mail editor in Microsoft Outlook 2000, the central processing unit (CPU) usage of your computer system may increase to almost 100 percent and there may be a lot of disk activity. This problem is most likely to occur when you have more than one e-mail message open at a time and are doing a lot of switching between open messages.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, turn off the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages option in Microsoft Outlook. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. On the Mail Format tab, clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
