VIZACT: Objects Placed in Front of Java Applets Appear Behind in Browser

ID: Q236635

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Vizact 2000
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 for Windows 98
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 for Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

In Vizact, objects that are placed in front of a Java applet appear as expected, but when you view them in Internet Explorer, the objects appear behind the Java applet.

Modifying the z-order of the Java applet has no effect. Objects still appear behind the applet.

CAUSE

Z-order does not apply to Java applets because they can not be layered. Applets will appear on top of all objects in Internet Explorer.

MORE INFORMATION

Vizact treats the Java applet as it would any other object. This allows you to specify the z-order of the Java applet; although, the actual z-order does not change the behavior in the Web browser. To work around this behavior, do not layer a Java applet with other objects, because the Java Applet will always appear on top.
