VIZACT: Cannot Resize Motion Path When Path Extends Outside Viewable Area of Page

ID: Q237666

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Vizact 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you apply a motion path to an object and the path of that motion extends off the page, you cannot edit the width or height of the motion path. The sizing handles of the motion path are off the page and there is no scroll bar available to scroll to the end of the motion path.

CAUSE

The Web browser, and Vizact itself, do not display scroll bars until objects are out of the visible boundaries of the page. Because the object that has the motion path applied is not outside the visible boundary of the page, Vizact does not make scrollbars available. This is consistent with how the Web browser behaves when the page is loaded in the Web browser.

RESOLUTION

To workaround this behavior and to resize the motion path, use Method 1 first; if that does not work, use Method 2.

Method 1: Resize the Vizact Window

When you resize the window to a size larger than the size of the motion path, the boundaries of the motion path and its sizing handles become available. The quickest way to do this is to maximize the Vizact window. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Vizact icon in the upper-left corner of Vizact to the left of the title "Microsoft Vizact," and then click Maximize on the menu that appears.

  2. Click the motion path in the timeline, and then resize the motion path in the Edit window.

If you still cannot reach the boundary of your motion path to resize it, go to Method 2.

Method 2: Scroll Through the Timeline Until the Object Is at the Boundary of the Motion Path

When you scroll through the timeline, the object to which you have applied the motion path moves along the designated motion path. As it moves outside the viewable area of the window, scrollbars appears. You can then scroll to the boundary of the motion path and resize it. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click the timeline scrollbar and drag it to the right. This scrollbar is immediately below the timeline itself. Note that the object moves along the path as you scroll.

  2. When the object is at the outer edge of the motion path, stop scrolling and select the motion path in the Edit window.

  3. Click the motion path in the timeline and resize the motion path in the Edit window.
