VIZACT: Page Encoding Always Defaults to Western European (Windows)

The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMS
When you create a new document, the page encoding always defaults to Western European (Windows).
When you open pages that do not have encoding specified, page encoding defaults to Western European on the Encoding tab of the Options dialog box.
CAUSE
Vizact always defaults to Western European (Windows) for new pages and for pages for which encoding is not specified, regardless of your Windows settings.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: On Existing Documents, Explicitly Set the Encoding on Each Page in Vizact
- Open the existing page.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- In the Options dialog box, click the Encoding tab.
- In the Save this document as list, select the page encoding that you want to use.
- Click OK, and then save the page.
Method 2: Create a Template with Encoding Set for All New Pages.
- On a new blank page in Vizact, set the page encoding. To do so, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Encoding tab.
- In the Save this document as list, select the page encoding that you want to use.
- Click OK.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- Browse to the Templates folder. By default, this folder is located at:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Vizact\Templates
- Name your template, and then click Save on the File menu.
- Use the template for all new pages that you create in Vizact. To do so, follow these steps:
- Start Vizact.
- On the File menu, click New.
- In the New dialog box, click the Templates tab.
- Select your template in the list, and then click OK. Note that the new page that is created is based on your template

Vizact always defaults to Western European (Windows). If you must have a page encoded differently, it is important to manually adjust this setting.
If a page already has a different page encoding specified, Vizact does not change that encoding.
