VIZACT: Error Opening Web Page If Server Needs Authentication

ID: Q238679

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Vizact 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you open a page that requires authentication, you may receive the following error message:

http://<server>/<page>
An error was encountered opening this page.
where <server> is the name of the server you are trying to access and <page> is the name of the page you are trying to access.

NOTE: This behavior may occur when you click a file in your most recently used list, when you click the Edit button in Internet Explorer, or when you type an HTTP address in the Open dialog box.

CAUSE

If the location is configured to require authentication to browse the page, Vizact returns the error when it tries to open the page because Vizact does not properly pass any authentication credentials to the server.

MORE INFORMATION

If you want to edit a location that requires authentication, you must create a Web folder and open the file directly from the Web folder in Vizact. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Open.

  2. Under Look in, click Web Folders.

  3. On the toolbar, click the Create New Folder button.

  4. In the Type the location to add box, type the HTTP location that you are trying to gain access to. For example, type:

  5. http://myserver/public
  6. Click Next.

  7. When prompted for a username and password, type the information, and then click OK.

  8. Type the name that you want to use to refer to the Web server, and then click Finish. This is the name that will appear in your Web folders.

  9. Select the file that you want to edit in Vizact, or browse to the file that you want to edit on the server, and then click Open.
