VIZACT: Numbered List Not Incremented When You Press ENTER

SYMPTOMS

After you have changed the Start at setting in a numbered list, the list is not incremented when you press ENTER to start a new item in the list. When you press ENTER, each new item has the same number.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, first complete your list, and then apply the numbering. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Complete your list without changing the numbering of the list.



2. Select all the items in your list and click the Numbering button on the Formatting toolbar. Or, click Bullets and Numbering on the Format menu. Then in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box, click None, and then click OK.



3. With the selection the same, click Bullets and Numbering on the Format menu.



4. Click the Numbered tab and select a numbering scheme.



5. Enter the Start at number that you want, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed in the beginning of this article.
