WD2000: Absolute Row Height in Table Cells Not Supported in Some Web Browsers

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word 2000, if you save a document that contains rows formatted with an exact row height as a Web page, the following error message may appear:

Some of the features in this document aren't supported by Web browsers.

Under Summary, it reads:

Absolute row height will become At-least row height. Number of times used should be 1.

When you click Continue, the document appears but may exhibit corrupt characteristics such as the following:

Text is converted to a single full width column.

If there are pictures, they are lined up side by side on the left side of the page.

CAUSE

Certain features in Microsoft Word 2000 are currently not supported in most Web browsers. In the conversion to HTML, Word tries to convert these features so that they appear correctly in the browser.

WORKAROUND

To change the option in Word to turn off the features not supported by your browser, do the following:

On the Tools menu, click Options.

On the General tab, click Web Options.

Click to clear the Disable features not supported by check box, and click OK.

Word now can roundtrip absolute row heights within tables through HTML. However, the browser cannot display this formatting, and Word only shows it in print layout view. In Web layout view, you see what is displayed in the browser.
