SYMPTOMS

The "Control what happens when you start Microsoft Word" Help topic in Microsoft Word 2000 does not provide instructions for setting up your shortcut on Windows 98. The steps for Windows 98 are similar to those for Windows 95.


RESOLUTION

In Windows 98, set up the shortcut icon to start Word with a startup switch by following these steps:

  1. Right-click the shortcut icon for Microsoft Word and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.


  2. Click the Shortcut tab.


  3. In the Target box, after the path, type the switch you want to use.


  4. For more information about controlling how Word starts, click Microsoft Word Help on the Help menu, type Control what happens when you start Microsoft Word in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
