WD2000: Shaded Text Is Not Displayed in Internet Browser

ID: Q209602

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you shade selected text in black background with the font color set to Automatic (on the Format menu, click Font to view the Font color list box), viewing the document in an Internet browser shows the shaded text as black background with black text.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. The Automatic font color attribute uses the window text system color. If the Internet browser displays the system color as black, then

  • Automatic text on a black background

  • -and-

  • Automatic text on an Automatic background

exhibit the behavior described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you can format your font color for any color other than Automatic.

To change a font color:

  1. Select the text to format.

  2. On the Format menu, click Font.

  3. From the Font color list box, click to select a color.
