WD2000: Macro Doesn't Select Reference Type in Cross-Reference Dialog Box

ID: Q209668

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you run a Visual Basic for Applications macro that calls the ReferenceType property for the Cross-reference dialog box (Insert menu), the option type specified in your macro for the Reference type list may not be selected. Instead, the Cross-reference dialog box displays the last reference type selected or the default option (Numbered item).

The following macro example demonstrates this behavior:

Sub test()
   With Dialogs(WdDialogInsertCrossReference)
      .Referencetype= "EndNote"
      .Show
   End With
End Sub

To work around this problem, edit the macro so that it uses a SendKeys statement to change the reference type to the setting you want.

For example, the following macro changes the Reference type to Endnote and the Insert reference to option to Page number:

Sub test()
   With Dialogs(WdDialogInsertCrossReference)
      SendKeys "%te"
      SendKeys "{enter}"
      SendKeys "%r"
      SendKeys "{down 1}"
      SendKeys "{enter 2}"
      .Show
   End With
End Sub

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
