SYMPTOMS
When you open a Word 2000 document containing a table inside a text box that was saved as "Word 6.0/95 (*.doc)," the table may shift slightly to the left and extend outside the text box.
NOTE: This problem also occurs when you open a Word 2000 document containing a table inside a text box into Word 6.0 or Word 95 using the Word 97 Import Converter.
CAUSE
In Word 2000, a text box (by default) has an internal margin of 0.1 inch. However, when you save the document as Word 6.0/95 (*.doc) or open the Word 2000 document directly in Word 6.0 or Word 95 (using the Word 97 Import Converter), the internal margin of the text box is lost.
WORKAROUND
Use one of the following methods to correct the placement of the table in the text box:
Method 1: Indent the Table
Word 2000
- Open your Word 2000 document that was saved as Word 6.0/95.
- Move the insertion point inside the table.
- On the Table menu, point to Select and then click Table.
- On the Table menu, click Table Properties.
- On the Table tab, change the Indent from left box to a setting that allows the table to reposition inside the text box (for example, 0.1"), and then click OK.
Word 97/Word 95/Word 6.0
- Open your Word 2000 document that was saved as Word 6.0/95.
- Move the insertion point inside the table.
- On the Table menu, click Select Table.
- On the Table menu, click Cell Height and Width.
- On the Row tab, change the Indent from left box to a setting that allows the table to reposition inside the text box (for example, 0.1"), and then click OK.
Method 2: Change the Internal Margin of the Text Box
Word 2000/Word 97
- Open your Word 2000 document that was saved as Word 6.0/95.
- Click to select the text box.
- On the Format menu, click AutoShape.
- On the Text Box tab, change the Left Internal Margin box to a setting (for example, 0.1") that allows the table to reposition inside the text box, and then click OK.
Word 95/Word 6.0
- Open your Word 2000 document that was saved as Word 6.0/95.
- Click to select the text box.
- On the Format menu, click Drawing Object.
- On the Size and Position tab, change the Internal Margin box to a setting (for example, 10 pt) that allows the table to reposition inside the text box, and then click OK.
