SYMPTOMS
When you unlink a table of contents to make editing changes to it, the text of the table of contents is underlined and formatted with the color blue. CAUSEWhen Word inserts a table of contents, Word adds the "\h" switch by default. The "\h" switch inserts TOC entries as hyperlinks. WORKAROUNDUse one of the following methods to work around this problem: Method 1: Remove Direct FormattingAfter you unlink the table of contents, remove the direct formatting applied to the text of the table of contents, using the following steps:
Method 2: Delete the TOC "\h" SwitchBefore you unlink the table of contents, delete the "\h" switch from the TOC field using the following steps:
{TOC \o "1-3" \h \z} {TOC \o "1-3" \z} Method 3: Insert a Table of Contents Field ManuallyDo not use the Index and Tables command on the Insert menu to insert a table of contents. Instead, use the Field command on the Insert menu, using the following steps:
