WD2000: Error Message: "Not Enough Memory or Disk Space" Saving File in Word 6.0/95

ID: Q210335

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you save a Microsoft Word 2000 document as Word 6.0/95 (*.doc), the following error message may appear:

There is not enough memory or disk space to convert this document.
When you click OK, the file is not saved. However, if you save the document as Word Document (*.doc), you can save the document without receiving the error message.

CAUSE

This error message may appear if the document contains a Table of Contents Entry (TC) field that is incorrectly formatted. For example, this error message may appear if you type the slash for a switch but omit the letter designating the switch.

The TC field uses the following syntax:

{TC "text" switches}
where "text" is the text you want to appear in the Table of Contents and switches indicates how you want the table of contents entry to be treated.

The following example is incorrectly formatted:
{TC "text" \ }

RESOLUTION

Check the TC fields in your document, and correct any that are incorrectly formatted. To view field codes, press ALT+F9.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION
