WD2000: IPF Error Opening File with Recover Text Converter

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a document, the following error message appears:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

If you click Details, the following error message appears:
WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in module OLE32.DLL at address.

When you restart Word, the following error message appears:
Word encountered file corruption while opening <filename>. Part of this document may be recoverable. Attempt recovery now?

If you answer Yes to attempt to recover the text of the document, the error message appears again.


CAUSE

The "Recover Text from Any File" converter has encountered corruption in the file and is unable to interpret this corrupt information.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
