WD2000: Table of Contents Loses Character Formatting

SYMPTOMS

When you update the entire table of contents by pressing F9, manual (directly applied) character formatting is lost.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Update Page Numbers Only

After pressing F9 to update the table of contents, select the Update page numbers only option in the Update Table of Contents dialog box.

Method 2: Redefine TOC Styles

  1. On the Insert menu, click Index and Tables and then click the Table of Contents tab.


  2. Click Modify.


  3. Change the TOC styles to reflect the character formatting you want.


  4. Click Apply.


  5. Click OK.


Method 3: Replace the Table of Contents

  1. Select the existing table of contents and press DELETE.


  2. On the Insert menu, click Index and Tables and then click the Table of Contents tab.


  3. Click OK.


  4. Re-apply the manual formatting you want to the table of contents.
