SYMPTOMSWhen you save a document, Word performs a "full save" instead of saving the file quickly. If you view the Allow fast saves option, the option is turned off. CAUSE
This functionality is by design and is different from Word versions earlier than Word 97. When Word 2000 is installed, the Allow fast saves option is turned off by default. MORE INFORMATION
The Allow fast saves option allows Word 2000 to save documents quickly by appending changes to the end of a file on the hard disk instead of rewriting the entire file during a save operation. Since a Background Save option was added to Word, the Allow fast saves option is no longer necessary because the Save operation occurs in the background.
